About Us

Southern Entertainment was brought to life by Ben Suggs and his college roommate Thomas Grimes in late 2005. After working for other DJs in North Carolina, Ben decided to start down a new road providing his unique brand of mobile entertainment to central NC. Ever since, Southern Entertainment has continually expanded it's reach and refined it's service. Each year, SE provides unforgettable entertainment for schools, weddings, and families all over NC, SC, and VA. 

Ben Suggs - Owner/DJ/MC

Ben has been a professional DJ/MC since 2003, but entertainment has been a part of his life for much longer. He grew up playing music, performing in plays, and telling jokes. After high school, Ben caught the radio bug, earning his degree in Broadcasting at Central Carolina Community College in Sanford. While in school, Ben began DJing at schools and nightclubs while gaining experience on air with various radio stations including G105 in Raleigh, 90.5 The Beat in Sanford, and 104.1 WTQR in Greensboro. 

Ben has done everything from weddings and birthdays to schools and fraternities. His high energy persona and interactive approach (as well as his self-proclaimed "smoldering good looks"...) has made him a big hit at school dances and proms - while his professionalism and timing has kept him in high demand for weddings. In addition to running Southern Entertainment, Ben currently serves as Minister to Students at Freedom Family Church in Liberty, NC. He and his wife Jenna are expecting their first child in October.


Perry Thompson - DJ/MC

Perry Thompson began his musical career in high school when he began to play the piano along with being in the marching band. After high school, he enrolled in the TV & Film Production Program at Cape Fear Community College eventually earning an Associate degree at Robeson Community College in Lumberton. Perry developed his MC chops while working on air at WDCC, WWGP and WFJA in Sanford as well as WAGR in Lumberton.

As a Southern Entertainment DJ, Thompson has performed at weddings, proms, corporate events, and family reunions; and comes highly recommended by the schools he has served. In his free time he loves going fishing, bowling, and attending live pro-wrestling shows.
Kyle Gauthier - DJ/MC

Kyle began his career in high school earning his International Thespian Society honors onstage.  In college he moved on to music and mixed for parties and private engagements on and off for a few years.  Kyle then moved to North Carolina, where he earned a degree in Broadcast Technologies and worked for a local radio station. 

Kyle has DJ'ed locally for over two years providing great experiences for ceremonies, receptions, and parties.  Kyle is familiar with many genres of music and has an outstanding ability to blend the old classics with the new hits to keep all ages on the dance floor.  His MC talent will ensure your wedding or event goes smoothly.  Kyle is always professional and friendly, making him ideal for crowds of all ages and backgrounds.
